A Message from the President

The BAHID mini conference on the 15th October 2011 once again proved that giving members and students the opportunity to get together in a relaxed, social and educational environment is always beneficial.
“I was once lost, but now I am found” was the theme for the October conference and our feedback confirms this conference was another success not just for BAHID, but also for BAFA. The networking opportunities were plentiful and the conference content and quality of all of our speakers gave rise to some thought provoking and very interesting presentations and posters.

Alan PuxleyTo all of you who attended the conference can I say a great big “thank you”, for without your support, participation and attendance our Association cannot continue to grow. I was particularly impressed that many student members, from different universities, have forged friendships from our April conference that are continuing to flourish.
I must also give a big pat on the back to our stalwart organising group who once again pulled out all the stops to make the weekend flow so smoothly. Likewise, I must not forget to mention our growing and loyal band of Student Members who man the stall and help get everything ready for the day. Thank you all.
Congratulations must go to our Student Prize winners Catriona Davies for her Presentation “The Utility of Proximal Epiphysis of the 5th Metatarsal in Age Estimation” and to Vivienne Heaton for her Poster Presentation “Modelling the Thermodynamics of Maggot Masses during Decomposition”
As I said in my September message, next year we are going to hold a bigger more ambitious conference. Many will have noticed the bookmark promoting our 2012 event; “Age Estimation in the Living”, we will once again need your help and support. Even if you can only dedicate a relatively small amount of time to help get this event up and running it will be time well spent and greatly appreciated.
The date and venue will be published shortly but in the meantime do not hesitate to contact BAHID with any thoughts or suggestions you have.
I look forward to all of us meeting up again in the not too distant future.

Warmest regards to all.

Alan
