Security Science Spring School

Editor's note: please note that the (soft) deadline for application is next week. Apologies for the delay in posting.WHAT IS IT? The Security Science Spring School is a 2‑day taster course for
students who may be interested in going on to do PhD research in the
security or crime domain.
WHEN? 15TH AND 16TH FEB 2010 (ie. the school lasts 2 days.)
WHERE? At University College London, London campus
WHO IS IT FOR? 2nd and 3rd year undergraduates, and current Masters
students, from UCL and other universities.
AIMS The Security Science Spring School will allow students to:
* Gain an understanding of 'security science'
* Carry out a 'taster' multidisciplinary research project
* Develop presentation and team‑working skills
* Network with students and academics from the security field
* Familiarise themselves with UCL's security research environment
* Make better informed career choices

DOES IT COST ANYTHING? The Spring School is free for those selected to
attend. For those outside of London we will pay up to £200 towards travel
and accommodation ‑ see website.
PLANNED ACTIVITIES Activities will include training, seminars and a
mini‑project. Academics from across UCL will be involved with the Spring
School. They will interact with the students during seminars and set them
'real‑world' problems to tackle in the mini‑projects.

* Smart Cards and Access Control Lab
* Securing public places against crime: Problem scanning and analysis
* Secure space for pedestrians and lighting
* What’s in the bag? Spectroscopy for illicit material identification
* Seeing with sound
* Is our voice like a fingerprint?
