Vacancy Background:
The Forensic Science Department (FSD) of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) conducts an integrated program of forensic archaeology, forensic anthropology, pathology, and high-throughput DNA testing for the identification of persons missing from armed conflict and human rights violations as well as ad hoc assistance following natural or man-made disasters. The ICMP FSD seeks to fill the position of Deputy Director of Forensic Science for Archaeology and Anthropology. This is primarily a management, oversight, direction, and planning position with relation the ICMP’s involvement in forensic anthropology and archaeology. The position will serve as a key management link between the ICMP Directors, and the supervisory and technical staff within FSD Archaeology and Anthropology Division. This Deputy Director is required to have an internationally recognized high level of subject matter expertise in forensic anthropology and archaeology, at the level of scientific principle and practical application. The Deputy Director will also have demonstrated skills and experience in management and direction at the strategic and operational levels.
The Deputy Director of Archaeology and Anthropology (DDAA) is responsible for scientific standards and conduct of the Archaeology and Anthropology Division (AAD), working closely with the Head of Archaeological Field Teams and Head of Anthropological Examinations (who will be under the supervision of the DDAA), the regional Heads of Forensic Science Programs in areas of ICMP operation, and the Director of Forensic Science. Such standards will be acceptable for use in criminal justice applications. The Deputy Director is responsible for scientific publication, presentations, and research projects associated with ICMP’s Archaeology and Anthropology programs. The Deputy Director is responsible for seeing to the development of internal and external educational and training programs. The Deputy Director is responsible for seeing to the generation of internal and external reports on excavations, and other activities of the AAD.
The position will involve substantial activities in the former Yugoslavia, as well as in other areas globally. The ICMP currently has training and assistance programs in Iraq and Colombia, and often assists in disaster victim identification response around the world.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Master degree in forensic archaeology and/or anthropology.
- Proven high capability and extensive experience in conduct of archaeology and anthropology techniques to the missing persons issue.
- Demonstrated capacity in personnel and operations management.
- Exceptional degree of professionalism and interpersonal maturity.
- Proven record of academic achievement and publication.
- International experience at the operational management level.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, in English. Other languages beneficial.
- Proven ability to perform well in the face of unexpected developments or continuously evolving political or operational circumstances.
- Excellent ability to interact positively with people of different cultural backgrounds, or scientific specialties.
- Ability to provide constant and effective leadership, while taking into account divergent opinions or acting upon decisions taken by others.
